Crumlin Hospital is the center for Paediatric liver disease in Ireland.

The head of  the GI and Liver unit is Prof Billy Bourke. Annmarie Brodick and Seamus Hussey are also consultants in the department.

As an outpatient the medical tower is the base for the clinical liver nurse. Dearbhla Connor and Geraldine O Shea are the clinical liver nurses.  This is the person that you will deal with most often. The nurse is your point of contact. Currently they operate an answering machine system. When you phone leave a message on the machine and they will get back to you. If it is an emergency phone the switch and ask for the GI and liver team.

Should your child need bloods done always try to go when Phlebotomy is open. 8.30-4 mon – fri. You can ask the clinical nurse for the forms.

If you need to go to A and E phone the switch before hand and ask for the Gi and Liver team. Then when you get there phone again to say that you are there. This should speed up the process.

Should you have to stay in hospital there is no specific ward for liver patients. Many wards have play rooms and parents rooms. On some wards there are play therapists.
