Dental Treatment

A query was raised at the 2020 AGM regarding appropriate dental care for children with liver conditions.

CLDI reached out to the liver nurses in Crumlin with this query in May 2020.

The nurses clarified the query with the liver consultants who noted that:

• Routinely young post-transplant patients are referred for review once, and any further dentist care is to be done by their own dentist practice.

• The majority of Liver patients do not need specialist dentistry input and therefore are not referred.

• There are exceptions for other clinical reasons that dental interventions are not safe to be done in their own dentist practice, and are therefore referred.
